SEG Rate History
How the best Smart Export Guarantee rates have evolved over the past 12 months. The gold line tracks the highest available rate, while the amber dashed line shows the UK average.
Key Trends
Best rates rose sharply in mid-2025. Octopus Energy increased their Outgoing tariff from 15p to 24p/kWh, driven by rising wholesale electricity prices and competition for SEG customers.
Average rates remain stubbornly low. Despite the best rate reaching 24p, the UK average is only around 12p/kWh. This gap exists because many homeowners remain on default supplier rates of 3-8p/kWh.
Agile tariffs offer even higher peaks. Battery owners using Octopus Outgoing Agile have seen half-hourly rates above 35p/kWh during evening peaks, significantly outperforming fixed tariffs.
