Key Trends

1.

Best rates rose sharply in mid-2025. Octopus Energy increased their Outgoing tariff from 15p to 24p/kWh, driven by rising wholesale electricity prices and competition for SEG customers.

2.

Average rates remain stubbornly low. Despite the best rate reaching 24p, the UK average is only around 12p/kWh. This gap exists because many homeowners remain on default supplier rates of 3-8p/kWh.

3.

Agile tariffs offer even higher peaks. Battery owners using Octopus Outgoing Agile have seen half-hourly rates above 35p/kWh during evening peaks, significantly outperforming fixed tariffs.
